We got a Peepin’ awesome crop of entries from readers in this, our eighth annual Star-Telegram Peeps diorama contest.

For the first time, we put the miniature, marshmallowy creations on display for the public to view and vote on at the Central Library in downtown Fort Worth. Creativity was abundant, and passersby were frequently seen chuckling and pointing as they admired the clever dioramas. Ballots cast during the three-day voting period narrowed the field of entries from several dozen to 10 finalists.

The range of intricate creations included historical delights like the battle for the Alamo (complete with the Texans’ famed “Come and Take It” flag), a satirical view of American politics courtesy of a diorama entitled “Dreadlocked Congress,” a couple of highly detailed rodeo scenes, a large globe populated by peaceful peeps (“World Peeps”), musical themes such as a “Peatles” version of the Beatles’ famed appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and a lively range of vintage cinematic and stage-themed entries like “Peepzilla” and Best of Broadway.

Once the ballots were counted and the winners were photographed, readers joined the fun online, casting more than 11,000 votes last weekend on Star-Telegram.com.

In the end, voters decided “There’s no place like Peeps,” crowning a Wizard of Oz-themed diorama the champion.

In second and third place, respectively, were creations depicting scenes from the hit movies Frozen and Gravity.

The top three vote-getters will receive gift certificates courtesy of Just Born, maker of Peeps candy. Here’s a chat with our winners and a closer look at the finalists.
