FORT WORTH, Texas — (May 14, 2014) The T will roll out the “green” carpet for cycling enthusiasts at the downtown Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) to celebrate its 7th annual Bike to Work Day rally on Friday, May 13, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. The T will also partner with the City of Arlington for its first Bike to Work Day celebration at The T’s Trinity Railway Express CentrePort Station, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
All commuters – whether by bike, train, bus, car or foot – are invited to a pre-work day party at the ITC for free refreshments and to socialize with fellow bicycle enthusiasts. A highlight will be the stop by Mayor Betsy Price at the ITC during her ride-in to work. Mayor Price will make some brief remarks along with The T Board Vice President Andre McEwing and The T’s Executive Vice President Tony Johnson.
The free rally includes refreshments, demonstrations on how to load bikes on a bus or a train, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) with the regional bike plan, and a representative from Fort Worth Bike Sharing to demonstrate how to enroll, check-out and use a B-cycle. Fort Worth Bike Sharing has 300 bikes at 34 stations throughout Central Fort Worth, including two at the ITC. To celebrate Bike to Worth Day, 24-hour B-Cycle memberships will be $4 all morning (regular price $8, no promo code necessary).
EVENT TIMELINE:
7 - 9 a.m. — Bike to Work Day commuters and other bicycle enthusiasts hosted at the ITC for free refreshments, bicycle demonstrations, Fort Worth Bike Sharing B-Cycle assistance and NCTCOG regional bike plan information.
8 a.m. — Arrival of Mayor’s group of cyclists at the ITC.
8 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. Remarks by Mayor Price, T Board Member Andre McEwing and T Executive Vice President Tony Johnson
WHY: This annual event highlights Fort Worth’s support for bicycle riding as a cost-efficient way to address mobility and air quality concerns while improving physical health and quality of life. Bicycles are advocated by the American Public Transportation Association to bridge the gap between bus and train stops to final destinations. The T’s buses have bike racks and bikes are allowed on the Trinity Railway Express.
