New online tool gives more timely updates to schedules, and connections, in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, (July 31, 2014) – The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) has launched an enhanced online trip planning tool which focuses on The T’s bus service area and the Trinity Railway Express between Fort Worth and Dallas.

The T’s Trip Planner follows two years of continued successful customer use of Google Maps Transit for regional transit travel throughout the greater Fort Worth-Dallas-Denton area.

Because The T’s local transit service updates are made in-house, the Trip Planner can provide more timely updates on Fort Worth area bus route schedules, connections with other T bus routes, plus bus connections to and from the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) at the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) and other TRE stations in Tarrant County. It includes TRE scheduled times at all stations between Fort Worth and Dallas.

“The T can make in-house changes to its Local Trip Planner within hours or less providing our customers with near real-time bus route and scheduling information, “explains Curvie Hawkins, AVP of Planning for The T.

“The T provides Google with information on Fort Worth area changes, whether planned or due to traffic, construction or other adjustments,” Hawkins added, “so we can make updates that are ‘local-only’ more quickly on our Trip Planner, and then turn them over to Google Transit for our region’s Metroplex-wide trip planner,” Hawkins said.

Updates on The T’s Local Trip Planner include changes in schedule times, bus stop relocations, and alerts for stop closures due to construction.

Simpler than Surfing the Region
“Creating a stand-alone pull-out of our local transit system from the larger DFW regional grid also makes The T’s Local Trip Planner simpler and more direct for those whose trips will be only within Tarrant County or on TRE,” Hawkins said. It recommends the route, gives the schedule, finds the nearest stop, and shows arrival times at all stops on the route.

The T’s Local Trip Planner may be accessed from The T’s home page on its website at www.the-t.com. The Regional Google Transit trip planner is still available on The T’s home page or at http://maps.google.com or on the Google Maps app for Android and iPhone.
