The Snowball Express is Coming to Downtown Fort Worth!

The City of Fort Worth will be hosting the Snowball Express in the downtown area December 11, 2014 through December 15, 2014. The Snowball Express is a nonprofit organization that honors and supports military kids who have lost a parent in Iraqi or Afghanistan. Since 9-11 over 8,000 kids under the age of eighteen have lost a father or mother serving our country. This year the City of Fort Worth has the privilege of hosting over 1,700 of these kids for Snowball Express.
Throughout this week citizens should be aware of significant increased bus traffic in the southern part of downtown. The Fort Worth Police Department would like to make you aware of some key dates that could affect your commute into the downtown area:
Friday December 12, 2014 between 8:00am and 9:00am
On Friday morning the Fort Worth Police Department will be loading buses and taking the Snowball Kids to Dallas. During the bus loading the Police Department will temporarily close Houston Street from 9th Street to Lancaster Ave.; and Calhoun Street from 12th Street to Lancaster Ave. Once the buses are loaded the Snowball Express will be given a presidential escort to Dallas. This escort will cause some delay on eastbound I-30.
Friday December 12, 2014 between 5:00pm and 6:00pm
On Friday Evening the Fort Worth Police Department will temporarily close lanes on Throckmorton Street between Lancaster Ave and 9th Street. Lane closures will also occur on Houston Street between 9th Street and Lancaster Ave; resulting in some delays for those traveling westbound on I-30 from Dallas.
Saturday December 13, 2014 between 8:00am and 12:00pm
On Saturday morning to accommodate the Snowball Express Walk of Gratitude, the Fort Worth Police Department will close Main Street from 9th Street to 4th Street. This walk is for the citizens of Fort Worth to welcome the Snowball Express Kids to Fort Worth.
Once the walk is over the Fort Worth Police Department will temporarily close traffic lanes on the following streets to accommodate bus loading:
Commerce Street between 5th Street and 3rd Street
3rd Street between Houston Street and Commerce Street
Houston Street between 3rd Street and 5th Street
