A sign for “Spec Ops Burritos” popped up the other day on the window of a recently closed Qdoba in downtown Fort Worth. But this is more than one burrito spot becoming another burrito spot.

Spec Ops Burritos has a slogan: “Eat a Burrito, Help a Hero.” “Our mission is pretty simple,” Mark Corwin, one of the business owners, says in an email. “A percentage of every sale will be going to wounded veterans, their families, and the families that have lost loved ones in the Spec Ops Community.”

Corwin and his business partner, Jeff Ehrich, have served in Special Ops units all over the world. Corwin says the downtown Fort Worth location, which is at 500 Throckmorton St. near the southeast corner of the Tower building, will be the first of many in DFW.

“With our background, it goes without saying that our military is very near and dear to our hearts,” Corwin says. “We spend an enormous amount of time working with veterans and giving back to those that aren't able to provide for themselves.”

This is a way of doing it in a fun atmosphere, Corwin says. The stores will be decked out in a Special Ops theme and will offer burritos, quesadillas, salads and more.

Corwin and Ehrich are looking at a June 15 opening date, but restaurant opening dates are notoriously hard to hit. “[It] will of course depend on the build-out and permits, so we're keeping our fingers crossed,” Corwin says. For updates, “like” Spec Ops Burritos aka “SOBs” on Facebook.
