Site work for the installation of Tabachin Ribbon, a large-scale, brightly colored sculpture donated to the City of Fort Worth by Mexican artist Yvonne Domenge, will begin the week of August 4th. The 13’ bright yellow artwork will be installed on the Public Safety Building Plaza north of City Hall.

Site work includes the addition of lighting specifically selected to provide an elegant nighttime presence and a sub-grade footing that permits an unobstructed view of the sculpture. Engineering and lighting design services were provided to the City at no cost by Tom Scott, PE, a partner at JQ, an engineering firm based in Texas and Jill Klores, owner of Essential Light Design Studio.

City Council accepted the donation on October 9, 2012 and the sculpture was moved to storage in the DFW area following an eighteen month exhibition in Chicago’s Millennium Park. Domenge was the second invited artist to exhibit her work as part of a rotating international sculpture program in a venue with major permanent public art installations including Anish Kapoor’s monumental sculpture Cloud Gate and Jaume Plensa’s Crown Fountain. Millennium Park is a major tourist attraction and attendance is expected to peak at five million by the end of 2015.

The sculpture will be installed in early September, following site work on the plaza. As a member of the Fort Worth Public Art Community Legacy Collection, Tabachin Ribbon will be maintained through the city’s public art program which is administered by the Arts Council of Fort Worth on the city’s behalf. A public dedication is planned later in the fall. The artist is expected to attend.
