Significant Improvements To I-35 Planned To Reduce Congestion
July 24,2013
DFWI and the Fort Worth Chamber co-hosted a joint meeting to discuss the planned and long term improvements to I-35. There has been some confusion between the
“ultimate” design scope and the actual construction that will begin this year and end in 2018.
The short version on what will be built now: Significant improvements to the I-35/820 interchange north of downtown will significantly reduce congestion. Toll lanes connecting 1-35 and I-30 will also relieve congestion. The general access lanes will be rebuilt, adding room for future expansion, but no additional lanes will be built in this phase. Current estimate to complete the ultimate build out: $800 million.
The Power Point presentation shown at the meeting can be found here. A scale drawing of the immediate construction is available for view at the DFWI offices. Please call in advance to ensure that the room is available: (817) 870-1692.
