Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Design

October 29,2013

City Deliverable Overview Map 10 23 13 Cctv Extension No Aerial

The Fort Worth Water Department retained the services of the consulting engineering firm, RJN Group, Inc., (RJN), to design sanitary sewer improvements throughout the Downtown area. A project exhibit showing the critical project design locations can be found here. Topographic surveying was completed in 2012; however, additional field work is necessary. The areas requiring the additional work are highlighted on the project exhibit.

The supplemental field work includes subsurface utility engineering (SUE), closed-circuit television inspections (CCTV) and sewer service dye testing activities. The SUE investigations will occur along selected areas primarily in the streets and potentially in some sidewalks in order to mark buried utilities and to survey those markings. These SUE areas are denoted with a hatched pattern and are anticipated to be performed during normal business hours. The CCfV inspections of existing sanitary sewers located in various streets and alleys which are denoted by the green highlighted areas will also be performed.

Additionally, there are three different City blocks with a number of existing buildings requiring the dye testing of existing sanitary sewer services in conjunction with the CCTV investigations. The dye testing locations are identified by the blue highlighted areas on the attached project exhibit. Ace Pipe Cleaning, Inc. (Ace), will perform the supplemental dye testing and CCTV inspection work.

Gorrondona & Associates, Inc. (GAl) will provide topographic surveys and The Rios Group (Rios) will perform the SUE work. RJN will work closely with these subcontractors to quickly and efficiently coordinate and conduct this work.

Because of ongoing construction Downtown, traffic and our desire to limit adverse impacts to normal business operations, we intend to perform the most of the CCTV and all of the dye testing work at night.

Please click here to see a table that summarizes each of the work locations, activities to be performed and an anticipated schedule to perform them.

Several aspects of this additional work require temporary access to your property by our project team, and we are seeking your cooperation by allowing this temporary access, as necessary. Regarding property access for the dye testing, RJN will work with Sundance Square officials and selected building owners to coordinate access to these properties for performing dye testing to document all active sewer services to facilitate the rehabilitation design of these public sewer mains. A minimum of 48 hours of advance notice requesting site access for dye testing will be provided to the property owners to assist with tenant coordination. Someone from Sundance Square or the RJN Group will contact you to schedule the required building access with your maintenance staff. We anticipate that the property owner or their designated representatives (building management company) will do the actual coordination with the tenants for site access and also provide personnel for on-site observations during the night-time work.

At this time, we anticipate conducting most of the SUE work and supplemental surveying during normal business hours.

All personnel performing any of these services will have identification badges. Night work will occur between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. The daytime surveying will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 3:30p.m. on Saturday. Conducting this supplemental work will take approximately two weeks to complete and it is anticipated to start on November 6, 2013.
