What do John Legend, Sam Smith, Mary J. Blige and students from Fort Worth’s Paschal High School have in common?
They will all be performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland next month.
Twenty students from Paschal, reportedly the first Texas high school band in almost two decades to earn an invitation, will perform on July 7 and 8 and will be joined by Paschal alum and Grammy-winning trumpeter John Thomas, who is professor of jazz studies at the University of Southern California.
The Paschal students, who raised $90,000 through a variety of one-off performances and pledges, will play one last local gig before heading off to Europe: Tuesday at 7 p.m., the Jazz Ensemble will perform at Fort Worth’s Burnett Park.
The free concert, which is open to the public, will also feature a performance from Thomas.
