The Tony-award musical Once, based on the 2006 movie, is about a Dublin street musician who finds renewed creative life when a beautiful young woman takes interest in his love songs. It’s coming to Bass Hall for a Feb. 18-22 run, but Performing Arts Fort Worth isn’t waiting till February to present an event tied to the show.
And, in its own way, it’s street music. “ONCE Around the Square,” which takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, will be a free pub crawl featuring six local musicians. The most “street” venue will be Sundance Square Plaza itself, but all the venues are in Sundance Square.
The musicians: Brandin Lea of Jetta in the Ghost Tree; Stephen Beatty of Un Chien; Katie Robertson, whose credits include Chucho and Foxtrot Uniform; Jacob Furr; Taylor Craig Mills of Mills&Co. and Un Chien); and Deanna Valone.
Robertson was featured in DFW.com’s fantasy version of The Voice in September 2014. Contributor Steve Watkins reviewed Un Chien in June 2013.
The performance schedule for Thursday:
6-7:30 p.m. Brandin Lea, Sundance Square Plaza; Deanna Valone, Del Frisco’s Grille; Katie Robertson, Scat Jazz Lounge.
7:30-9 p.m.: Jacob Furr, Silver Leaf Cigar Lounge; Taylor Craig Mills, Taco Diner; Stephen Beatty, Flying Saucer.
