Area events honoring the life of Martin Luther King Jr. begin Friday with a celebration at Fort Worth City Hall. Here are the highlights of events scheduled for the next few days.

Friday

▪ Fort Worth’s 30th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration starts at noon Friday in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 1000 Throckmorton St.

Local lawyer L. Clifford Davis, known for his work on the landmark Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka and for advocating for the integration in the Mansfield and Fort Worth Independent School Districts, will be the main speaker.

The theme is “Bringing His Dream to Life” and the event will include live entertainment, music and vendors. The public is invited. Information: fortworthtexas.gov

Saturday

▪ MLK Step Show Competition starts at 11 a.m. and features elementary, middle and high school step teams at Bowie High School Auditorium, 2101 Highbank Dr., Arlington. Admission is $10 at the door and $5 for elementary students and all children under age 5. Information: http://www.arlington-tx.gov/

▪ MLK Multicultural Festival, a celebration of the life and legacy of King starts at 3:30 p.m. and includes food, music and dance performances. Tarrant County College Southeast Campus in Arlington, 2100 Southeast Parkway. Free. Information: http://www.arlington-tx.gov/

Sunday

▪ Liberian Community Association of Texas plans an observation, Martin Luther King’s: “Realizing The Dream” at 2 p.m. Sunday at Arlington Christian Bible Fellowship, 1501 South Center St., Arlington. Monday

▪ Fifth Annual Tarrant Churches Together MLK Day of Service is 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and begins at Baker Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1050 Humbolt St. in Fort Worth. Online registration, which includes liability waivers, is available through Saturday at 5 p.m. at http://www.tarranttogether.org/.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for pre-registration sign-in and walk-in registration at Baker Chapel AM.E. Church. Community worship begins at 9 a.m. The day ends with a no-cost lunch for volunteers at 12:45 p.m. at Broadway Baptist Church, 305 W. Broadway in Fort Worth. Mayor Betsy Price will be the guest speaker. Free. fortworthtexas.gov

▪ The Fort Worth Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. at Ninth and Commerce streets in Downtown Fort Worth. The MLK Rally, which features step groups, dancers, high school bands and skit and drill teams from the area in Sundance Square, will follow the parade. More information on the parade, organized by the Greater Fort Worth Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee, can be found at www.gfwmlkjrhc.info.

▪ The MLK Day of Service at the University of Texas at Arlington begins at 9 a.m. Volunteers will meet at the campus’ Maverick Activity Center, 500 Nedderman Dr. for assignments. The first 150 volunteers will get a free Arlington MLK commemorative T-shirt. Information: http://www.arlington-tx.gov/

▪ Youth Musical Extravaganza starts at 6:30 p.m. and features a 500-voice elementary choir, soloists and step teams.Metro Center, Fielder Road Baptists Church, 1323 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington. Free.
