FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – The street barricades are in place. The vendor tents are set up. There are storms in the weather forecast. It must be time again for the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival.
This is the 30th year for the event, one of the largest arts fests in the nation. It covers more than 25 blocks in downtown Fort Worth, from the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The event features more than 200 artists, four days of live music and amazing food. Organizers expect to sell more than $4.6 million worth of art this year, and many vendors already have their crafts out and ready to be seen.
But what about that weather forecast?
The event is frequently plagued by harsh conditions. Last year, the arts festival was forced to shut down a day early due to 35 mph wind gusts. Rain, hail and strong winds have all been a part of the festival’s story in past years. Vendors have sand bags out to hold down their tents, but will that be enough?
Severe storms are possible on Thursday, and more bad weather could be seen over the weekend. Friday is the only day that does not include a chance of rain.
The festival’s security team said that they are watching the weather closely and will take proper precautions as the need arises. Luckily, there is no rain on the radar when the event begins at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. It runs through the weekend.
