Lone Star Film Festival Announces 2013 Competition Lineup
October 15,2013
Fort Worth, Texas—Oct. 14, 2013—The Lone Star Film Festival (LSFF) in Sundance Square
announced its 2013 feature competition lineup, five additional Showcase titles and two additional
ReScreen films. The festival will take place Nov. 7-10 at the AMC Palace Theater and other
locations around downtown Fort Worth’s Sundance Square.
Films selected for the competition lineup were picked from a selection pool of over 1,000
submissions, a record number for the LSFF. Each film is either the first or second feature film by
their respective directors and made with a budget of under $500,000. One winner from the
Documentary category and one from the Narrative category will be selected by a jury and each
winner will be awarded $2,500 in cash.
All feature filmmakers will have the opportunity to participate in the LSFF B1ST Artist Services
program in which they will be mentored by industry experts in the fields of marketing and
distribution to help connect their films with the largest possible audience.
Narrative competition films are CASA NOSTRA, SILVI, THE COLD LANDS, HERE COMES
THE NIGHT, and BOB BIRDNOW'S REMARKABLE TALE OF HUMAN SURVIVAL AND
THE TRANSCENDENCE OF SELF. Documentary competition films are DARK MATTER OF
LOVE, I WILL BE MURDERED, MY NAME IS FAITH, and SICK BIRDS DIE EASY.
The newly announced Showcase titles are THE BOOK THIEF, LIKE FATHER LIKE SON, A
FIELD IN ENGLAND, LITTLE HOPE WAS ARSON, and BEFORE YOU KNOW IT. New
ReScreen titles are MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE, widely considered one of the worst films
ever made, and JOYEUX NOEL. The LSFF will screen JOYEUX NOEL in partnership with the
Fort Worth Opera.
“The competition lineup truly represents the very best in emerging filmmaking talent from all
over the world. These films come to Fort Worth fresh from their premieres at Berlinale, Cannes,
Tribeca and other world-class festivals,” said William Grella, Lone Star Film Society film
programmer.
The festival’s 2013 lineup also includes NEBRASKA, directed by two-time Oscar winner
Alexander Payne (SIDEWAYS, THE DESCENDANTS); the highly anticipated documentary
about the techniques of Dutch master Johannes Vermeer, TIM’S VERMEER; and the critically
lauded drama from Stephen Frears, PHILOMENA, starring Dame Judi Dench.
The 2013 Lone Star Film Festival will honor Lyle Lovett with the Stephen Bruton Award for his
longtime contribution to film as an actor and musician. The festival will also honor Stephen
Murrin, Jr. with the inaugural Visionary Award for his commitment to Fort Worth and the Lone
Star Film Society.
