FORT WORTH — The newly refurbished Leonards M&O Subway Car now sits in the lobby of One City Place at 300 Throckmorton St. in downtown Fort Worth.

It was used from 1963 to 2002 to shuttle passengers from a station near the Trinity River through a tunnel under West Belknap Street to Leonards Department Store downtown. The subway is named after owners of the store, brothers Marvin and Obidiah “Obie” Leonard.

The newly renovated car was moved to the One City Place lobby, which was partially reconstructed to house it.

Updates to the car include new paint, fixed blemishes and holes, new leather seating, polished handrails and new lighting.

Spire Realty Group property manager Marilyn Weinberger said the car is not yet open for public viewing but will be after construction is completed and tenants begin moving into One City Place, probably in the first quarter of next year.
