Leadership Watch: Day Resource Center for the Homeless
May 29,2012
The Star-Telegram reported that the Day Resource Center’s lease with the Union Gospel Mission will expire next August and that the UGM has plans for the building. UGM has been a gracious landlord at $1.00 per year, but the time has come to make other plans.
The DRC has been planning to manage an updated Central Resource Facility since that concept emerged in the City’s Homeless Commission plan, but it hasn’t been built. This lease situation punctuates the need and, more urgently, sets a critical point in time against which all involved can work. The DRC is Fort Worth’s front line in the provision of services to the homeless on the street during the day. From weather refuge to shower, bathroom, laundry and human services, the DRC’s function is critically important to those who need the services and the entire community. Leaders are needed to help resolve this issue. If you are interested in this important issue, contact Andy Taft at andy@dfwi.org.
