Hunter Plaza Redevelopment
October 24,2011
At a recent meeting, the Fort Worth Housing Authority made a presentation on redevelopment ideas for Hunter Plaza. The plan for the building is mixed-use and mixed-income, with commercial uses on the first floor and a mix of affordable and market rate apartments above. Until it was closed because of a bedbug infestation, Hunter Plaza provided housing for low income people, with an emphasis on services for the elderly and those with handicaps. After the building’s closure, the Housing Authority took a deliberate approach to selecting a highly qualified developer and accepted proposals from a number of experienced firms.
The Fort Worth Housing Authority has selected Carlton Residential Properties, which developed the Depot near Hillside and the Pavilion on Samuels Avenue, as the developer. Mayse & Associates are the architects. Their selection of Carlton Development signals the first step in the renovation and reuse of this building.
