Historic building in downtown Fort Worth to become a boutique hotel

A historic building in downtown Fort Worth will be repurposed into a boutique hotel by San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants.
According to a release, The Kimpton Hotel will open in the historic XTO Energy Headquarters building at 714 Main St. in spring 2021.
It will be the first Kimpton property in Fort Worth and the third in Texas, joining the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt in Austin and the Kimpton Pittman Hotel slated to open in Dallas' Deep Ellum in summer 2020.
In addition, a Kimpton in Houston will open in 2022.
Kimpton's CEO Mike DeFrino says in a statement that adding Fort Worth to their portfolio, alongside Austin and Dallas, is vital to their growth in the Southwest, calling the area "the historically rich, energetic and exciting community of Fort Worth."
The new hotel will have 232 rooms, meeting space, a two-story grand ballroom, artfully designed spaces, an Italian restaurant, and a penthouse sky bar with city views. Signature amenities include evening social hour, morning coffee service, and complimentary bicycles.
Located in Fort Worth's Central Business District, the building is walking distance to the Fort Worth Convention Center, Sundance Square, and Bass Performance Hall, as well as offices for Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Charles Schwab.
It was built in 1921 as the Farmers and Mechanics National Bank building and was once the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
XTO Energy restored the building to its original design in 2010.
Kimpton has a commitment to adaptive reuse. Recent projects include The Kimpton Hotel Fontenot in New Orleans, the Kimpton Hotel Arras Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina, and the Kimpton Gray in Chicago.
The building it's going into in Dallas is the historic Knights of Pythias Temple, more recently the Union Bankers Trust Building, at the corner of Elm Street and Good Latimer Expressway.
This is not Kimpton's first rodeo in DFW. Until 2017, it was the management company for Hotel Lumen in Dallas' Park Cities, and the Hotel Palomar at US-75 and Mockingbird Lane, which was taken over by Hilton in 2014.
