Heritage Park: Update

July 24,2012

Using private grant funds, Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. contracted with Freese and Nichols to conduct an assessment of the Plaza.  This was the first step recommended by Laurie Olin and the Heritage Plaza design team.

Although there are no major concerns based on the visual inspection, there has been settling in some locations. The consultant has advised monitoring the Plaza to determine the extent of any ground movement. An inclinometer has been installed to measure the stability of the slope and determine if and how ground movements might influence renovation decisions.  The monitoring period required to determine stability is 1 to 2 years with readings every 6 months, with a minimum survey period of one wet and dry season. Depending on interim findings, the final reading is scheduled for Spring 2014.

Based on the results of the readings, the next steps will be to complete a Tree and Soil Survey, and prioritize and fund improvements required before re-opening the Plaza.
