Workers moved a newly built Trinity Habitat for Humanity home out of Sundance Square Tuesday morning after a weeklong “build.”
XTO Energy employees partnered with Trinity Habitat for Humanity to build the home for Mary Myers and her four grandchildren last week in the central square in downtown Fort Worth. Work was completed on Saturday.
Myers said then that it was more than a project for her - it meant a new life for her and her granddaughters.
“It’s a new beginning, and a place for them to bring their kids when they have kids, and their grandkids,” she said.
The home was scheduled to be moved out of downtown on Monday but the operation was postponed because of the rainy weather.
The home left Sundance Square on Tuesday morning headed for its permanent address in the Central Meadowbrook neighborhood in east Fort Worth, where the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project was conducted in October.
“It was a wonderful build,” said habitat executive director Gage Yager. “It was the first time for us to be in the new Sundance Plaza ... since they’ve redone the plaza.”
In October, the group - including former President Jimmy Carter, his wife, Rosalynn, and country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood - built 20 homes and repaired 44 others in the east Fort Worth neighborhood.
