Extra officers, check.
Light sticks, yep.
And thousands of screaming fans, sure.
Police and officials at the Fort Worth Convention Center say they’re ready for the sea of K-pop fans who will converge on downtown Fort Worth Saturday and Sunday to hear megastars BTS.
“Several coordinated meetings have taken place to ensure that all participants have a safe and enjoyable time,” Fort Worth police spokesman Jimmy Pollozani said in an email Monday. “We will make sure that those impeding the sidewalks will be advised to make a pathway for those that require a wheelchair and such.”
Those meetings have included police, fire officials, troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety and agents with the Department of Homeland Security.
The two shows are sold out. It’s been that way for months. Fans who have general admission tickets can start lining up at 8 a.m. on the day of the concerts.
In April, BTS announced a world tour that included six North American cities — including Fort Worth and it’s 11,000 seats at the Fort Worth Convention Center. So why Fort Worth?
“I believe we had the contacts, the availability and we sold Fort Worth to promoters,” Kirk Slaughter, director of public events for Fort Worth, said Monday in a telephone interview. “This is just a fabulous opportunity for Fort Worth.”
Convention Center officials have released a list of do’s and don’ts for fans attending the concerts. Here are some of them:
- No overnight camping allowed.
- There will be metal detectors, and no signs or banners allowed inside the building.
- Official BTS light sticks allowed and they do not have to be purchased at the concerts.
- Clear 1-gallon plastic, resealable bags allowed, but no grocery, duffel, camera or diaper bags.
- Binoculars allowed and must fit into the clear bag.
- No cowbells, air horns or musical instruments.
- Service dogs allowed in all areas of the convention center, but no stuffed animals or character pillows.
- No outside beverages, water bottles or food.
The concerts will be at the Fort Worth Convention Center, 1201 Houston St, at 8 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
