Fort Worth is going all out to celebrate the success of a hometown hero: Sundance Square is hosting a celebration for musician Abraham Alexander, who has been nominated for an Academy Award.

Alexander, a singer-songwriter and Fort Worth native, earned a co-nomination for the category Music (Original Song) in the 97th Academy Awards, along with Adrian Quesada of Austin band Black Pumas, and co-writer Brandon Marcel.

They received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for "Like a Bird," which was featured in the 2023 prison drama film Sing Sing (which received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay).

Other nominees in the Best Original Song category include Elton John, Clement Ducal, Brandi Carlile, and Diane Warren. The Academy Awards show is on Sunday March 2.

According to a release, the public is invited to attend an Oscar send-off party and meet & greet with Alexander in Sundance Square Plaza on Thursday February 20.

There'll be a DJ & live music, and Abraham will meet attendees & sign autographs. Complimentary copies of his debut album Sea/Sons will be available while supplies last.

The event will include a 7:30 pm city proclamation presented by Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and fireworks at 8:30 pm.

Alexander is a favorite headliner for major events such as the Fort Worth Music Festival & Conference which he headlined in 2024, and 2023's “A Party for the Planet,” hosted by environmental film festival EarthX Film. He also collaborated with Oak & Eden Whiskey on a unique blend of whiskey, and helped execute a grant program to benefit local musicians founded by Fort Worth billionaires Sasha and Edward P. Bass.

When Alexander got the news of his Academy Award nomination, he posted his excitement on Instagram, stating "OSCAR NOMINATED!!!!!!!!!! Truly no words!! I’m still trying to find the breath to express how I feel right now but it’s falling short…"
