Brace yourself for a slowdown in western downtown Fort Worth, as the city gears up for a significant water line construction project starting Monday, March 3. The old cast-iron water mains, some nearly a century old, are set for replacement in a bid to prevent the kind of main breaks that disrupted lives back in August 2023, as per the City of Fort Worth.
The work will unfold over two years, with initial phases causing phased street closures around West Lancaster Avenue, Summit Avenue, and Henderson Street among other smaller streets.
For the Downtown denizens and commuters alike, this means recalibrating the daily dance through the concrete veins of Fort Worth.
Expect to see barriers rise along Florence Street between West Lancaster Avenue and West 13th Street, and West 13th Street between Florence and Henderson Streets, as reported by the City of Fort Worth.
Improving public health, and fortifying the water system's reliability stands at the heart of this undertaking. The city is keen on ensuring that the specter of water main breaks, won't haunt Fort Worth’s western downtown again. To lay out the game plan, a preconstruction meeting is set for February 27, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 2020 of Old City Hall, 200 Texas St. Those at a distance can catch the live stream via a posted Webex link.
