Nearly 10,000 LED lights will illuminate this year's Sundance Square Christmas tree, which will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy. Sundance Square is expecting approximately 1.2 million visitors during the holiday season beginning with the tree lighting and continuing through New Year's Day.
Just in time to get in the spirit of the holidays, jolly old St. Nick will be arriving in Sundance Square Plaza at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 for the official tree lighting ceremony. Kids Who Care, a nonprofit international theatre company, will perform.
Santa Claus will be prominently featured in his magical sleigh on the Sundance Square Plaza stage, which will be transformed into a winter wonderland with a dramatic silver fabric backdrop. The entire plaza will feature large, brilliantly lit sculptures as settings for photos with family and friends.
There's no waiting in long lines to see Santa with Sundance Square's virtual system. Upon arriving in Sundance Square Plaza, simply check in at Santa's Sleigh, provide a mobile telephone number and then shop, eat and have fun until a text is received confirming it's time to see Santa.
A visit and photo with Santa are available for $20, and all proceeds benefit the Fort Worth Sister Cities' Youth Program. Santa's schedule begins on Nov. 23 and runs through Dec. 22 on these days:
Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday: 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
During the week of Thanksgiving, Santa will be available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. On Thanksgiving Day, Santa will be back at the North Pole checking his list twice.
