Mark Snell Bio
Mark Snell grew up in the Buffalo, NY area where he was a High School All America at Lockport Senior High School. He went on to attend perennial power Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY and was a member of teams that played in two NCAA Division I Final Four Tournaments. Snell left Hartwick early in his senior year to play professionally for the Edmonton Drillers of the North American Soccer League (NASL). During his time there he was loaned out to German third division club 1 FC Viersen and also trained with Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach. Kicker Magazine mentioned Snell as the only American at that time playing professionally in Germany. Snell also played in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) for the Buffalo Stallions and Wichita Wings before ending his playing career.
He took time away from football for several years and was involved in business back in his home town. Later he returned to his alma mater Hartwick College and began his coaching career where he mentored for five years under his former Coach Jim Lennox. A past US National Team Coach, Lennox is widely considered one of the top teachers and tacticians of football in the US. In addition to Snell's coaching duties, he was in charge of scheduling, team travel, player identification and recruitment. While at Hartwick, he completed his college degree receiving a B.A. in Mathematics. Also at that time Snell was a Staff Coach for the Region I Olympic Development Program (ODP) headed by U14 US National Team Head Coach Manfred Schellscheidt. This was a program that identified players for all the US Youth National Teams.
Snell left Hartwick College to pursue a career in youth football coaching. He moved to Dallas, Texas because it is considered to be one of the top hot beds for talent in the US. He began with the Dallas Inter Soccer Club, which several months later merged with FC Dallas (MLS) and became their official youth club. He was an integral part of forming the FC Dallas Pre Academy (ages 5-10) which he helped grow to over 45 boys teams. Snell was also instrumental forming the innovative FC Dallas "in house" 4v4 small sided league called Academy Liga and designed the program's curriculum.
