Fort Worth Remembers The Legend Of President John F. Kennedy

Friday, November 22, marks the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's historic visit to Fort Worth. Various institutions and organizations throughout Fort Worth and the metropolitan area are holding commemorative events, including art exhibitions, special theater performances, guest speakers and more. In addition, in honor of the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's historic visit to Fort Worth, Imagination Celebration of Fort Worth is partnering with FWISD Art Education, Downtown Fort Worth, Inc., the Arts Council of Fort Worth & Tarrant County, the Downtown Central Library and the Amon Carter Museum to bring a unique field trip experience to nearly 600 Art and Social Studies students from seven local middle schools and high schools. The program, called The JFK Experience is meant to offer students a look at the history of JFK, his tie to Fort Worth, and the art and curative efforts that the president’s leadership inspired. From October 29 to December 3, students will have the opportunity to take part in 11 field trips that include visits to: The JFK Tribute Downtown, the Central Library, and the Amon Carter Museum. At the Central Library students will learn about JFK’s historic visit to Dallas and Fort Worth through the current photo exhibition, listen to theatrical readings of speeches on civil right, and participate in a scavenger hunt to gather facts on President John F. Kennedy. While at the Amon Carter Museum, students will visit the “Texas Hotel Exhibit,” which includes the art that was gathered and displayed in the president’s Hotel Room for the night of his visit to Fort Worth.
