Fort Worth’s skyline continues to fill in.
The Fort Worth Police Officers Association, which recently demolished its former one-story headquarters at 904 Collier St. with plans to build a new home on the site near downtown, is planning a $5.5 million, 25,000-square-foot, five-story building. The Downtown Design Review Board on Thursday is scheduled to consider the case.
The building will include 60 ground-floor parking spaces and a gymnasium and training facility for officers. The Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, which had an office in the former building, will have an office in the new one. The POA will fully occupy the building.
“This building will be a destination space for the men and women of the Fort Worth Police Officers Association,” Rick Van Houten, the POA president, said. “It will be a safe place for our officers to learn, connect and access critical resources all in one location.”
Enoetics, the developer and contractor, is seeking waivers from the Design Review Board on certain streetscape, building edge, and parking design standards.
“We’ve enjoyed collaborating with the Downtown Design Review board and Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. to design a building that is not only functional for the FWPOA, but also a complement to the community” Cile Spelce, an Enoetics principal, said. “For example, as the Trinity Trails project expands, the FWPOA building will enhance pedestrian-friendly growth with open spaces, trees and wide sidewalks.”
The building is expected to be energy-efficient and environmentally “net neutral.”
“We look forward to talking about the environmental benefits of the building,” Spelce said. “However, details are still fluid as we continue to refine the project.”
