Mayor Betsy Price and the Fort Worth City Council have signed a proclamation accepting a challenge from the Greater Des Moines area to be a recognized “wellness capital.” In order for our city to win, the entire Fort Worth community is asked to participate in a 10-week wellness challenge powered by Live Healthy America. FitWorth and the Mayor’s Healthy City initiative are urging corporate teams and families to create healthy habits by tracking physical activity, improving their nutrition and realizing weight loss.

All residents are encouraged to sign up and track their progress for free online at www.fitworth365.org from Monday, Jan. 27 until Friday, April 4, 2014. Citizens can also upgrade their experience with a purchase of $20, which will cover a year-long magazine subscription, a training shirt and more. Minutes for the 10-week challenge will be tracked regardless of whether residents choose to upgrade or not. Enrollment is open now.

Employers in the Fort Worth area will play a vital role during the challenge with some expected to pay the enrollment fee on behalf of their employees. Corporate teams will be entered into a friendly competition for the Mayor’s Cup, so in addition to competing with Iowa, there will be a trophy to recognize the most active company in Fort Worth.

Throughout the Challenge, participants have unlimited access to online resources, recipes, videos, workouts, and health and wellness information. While this Challenge is geared around competing with Iowa, it is truly focused on education, motivation, activation and personal achievement.

The kick-off event featuring Mayor Betsy Price and Dallas Cowboy's defensive end DeMarcus Ware will take place in Burnett Park on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!
