Downtown Fort Worth Trolley to Launch Digital Next Bus Locator

FORT WORTH (November 3, 2014) – Molly the Trolley has picked up speed the past few weeks, and today will add a digital locator system. These enhancements follow five years of Molly’s popular free shuttle service that circulates around 12 Molly stops in the heart of downtown Fort Worth. Molly service is operated by the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) in conjunction with its partners including Downtown Fort Worth, Inc., Sundance Square, and the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau.

In September, The T increased Molly’s frequency at stops to every 10 minutes instead of every 15 minutes by adding another trolley to the loop.

Today The T will roll out a Molly the Trolley Next Bus System that provides real-time information on computer desk tops and digital devices. Whether waiting at a stop or in a hotel, restaurant, shop or office Molly riders may find out when the next trolley will be at any of Molly’s stops.

“Even though waits for the next Molly are short, we believe that knowing if a trolley has just left and when the next trolley will arrive are important to enhance the positive experience of using a circulator service like Molly,” said Paul Ballard, president/CEO of The T.

Molly’s Next Bus is easy to use. To receive the arrival time and the arrival location of the next Molly, riders may simply go to www.nextbus.com. Additional information on various ways to use the Molly Next Bus locator system, including texting, is on The T’s website at www.the-t.com.

Johnny Campbell, President/CEO Sundance Square added, "Knowing and understanding the wait between trolleys will increase use by visitors, residents and office workers.”

“Since it began in May 2009, Molly the Trolley has been extremely popular with downtown employees, residents and visitors and also makes it especially easy for the downtown workforce to move around,” said Andy Taft, president of Downtown Fort Worth, Inc.

"This is a significant enhancement to our visitors' experience, especially the high demand from people attending conventions. More than ever, the name Molly embodies not only the Fort Worth spirit but also mobility around town,” said Bob Jameson, president and CEO of the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Molly the Trolley operates a continuous circular loop from the north to south end of downtown from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Its 12 stops are near all of the downtown hotels, with close proximity to areas of interest such as Sundance Square, the Convention Center, Water Gardens, and Bass Hall, and includes a stop at The T’s Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) that serves the Trinity Railway Express and is a major transfer center for buses.

Molly also offers a separate free Burnett Plaza Lunch Line service Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from west Downtown to Sundance Square,
