Downtown Cowtown Farmers Market Opens for the Spring

March 19,2013

Downtown Cowtown Farmers Market opens for the season on Tuesday, March 19. Market will be every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays in Federal Plaza Park, 1000 Throckmorton St., in front of Lanham Plaza (federal building). The downtown farmers market is open to the public, and operates rain or shine.

Fresh, locally grown produce; cut flowers and plants; artisanal bread and baked goods; tamales; soap and bath products; coffee; pastured farm eggs, farmstead cheeses, honey and more are sold.  Seasonal, local produce available now includes greens, lettuces, broccoli, broccoli rabe, herbs, spring onions, baby garlic and greenhouse tomatoes. Asparagus and strawberries will be available in the next few weeks.

The North Central Texas Farmers Market Corp. operates state-certified and city-licensed farmers markets in Tarrant County, and is a member of the Farmers Market Coalition. The nonprofit North Central Texas Farmers Market Association has been serving Fort Worth-area residents for more than 30 years.

Markets are producer-only; that is, everything sold must be grown or produced with 150 miles of the market. The association inspects each vendor annually to verify that each is growing/producing all that is offered for sale at market. No re-sellers are allowed. No produce imported from areas outside of the 150-mile radius is allowed.
