The bakery of Homer Simpson’s dreams is coming to downtown Fort Worth.
Doughnuts and beer will be the centerpiece of a new Funkytown Donuts location replacing a former cupcake shop across from Bass Performance Hall.
Funkytown Donuts & Drafts will expand the Moors family’s artisan doughnut empire to add craft brews, coffees and a cold coffee brew on tap.
The “extreme doughnuts” shop is known for all-natural ingredients, clever combinations and artful icing and toppings. For example, the flavors this week include maple-bacon, Key lime pie, king cake and “Revenge of the Nerds.”
Funkytown also serves gluten-free and vegan doughnuts Sundays and Wednesdays, and cake doughnuts other days
Owners Angie and Brandon Moors left other hospitality jobs to open Funkytown, first as a caterer and food truck and then last year at their current shop, 1000 Eighth Ave.
The new location will replace the Cupcakery at 132 E. Fourth St., across from Bass Hall, Bird Cafe and the Cheesecake Factory.
Funkytown Donuts & Drafts will be open morning, noon and night, Brandon Moors wrote by email. The current location closes in early afternoon or when the doughnuts run out.
The restaurant is among those chosen for the special Rise ’n’ Dine Brunch at the annual Fort Worth Food +Wine Festival, this year April 5-8.
