BBVA Compass has appointed Brian Happel, most recently the Fort Worth city president, its chief executive officer of Fort Worth.
Happel’s new role is part of the bank’s broader reorganization, which was announced in November and combines BBVA Compass’ retail, wealth management and commercial lines of business into one unit.

“Brian is clearly the right person for the CEO job in Fort Worth since he knows the market so well and from several angles,” said BBVA Compass Chief Operating Officer Rafael Bustillo, who leads the consumer and commercial bank. “Our CEOs are central to our vision. All of our lines of business roll up to them now, from top to bottom, so we have a big-picture view of our markets and our clients and can be more responsive, tailoring our products and services accordingly.”
Happel has more than 30 years of banking experience in Tarrant County. Active in the community, he serves on the boards of Downtown Fort Worth Inc., The Art Station and the University of Texas at Arlington College of Business Advisory Board, among others.

Happel earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to joining the banking industry, Happel played professional football for the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Colts, New York Jets and other teams.
