Celebrate the Opening of 8th Street

July 22,2024

After months of reconstruction following the January 8th Sandman Fort Worth Signature Hotel explosion, the much-anticipated reopening of 8th Street is finally here. The extended closure has been challenging for local businesses, but with perseverance and community support, they are ready to welcome visitors again.

While the merchants have been running promotions to encourage customers to visit, the barriers and construction activity have been hard to overcome.

Now it is time to celebrate! Downtown Fort Worth Inc. (DFWI) and local businesses are hosting an "Unblocked Party" on July 25.

“This is great news for our merchants,” said City Council District 9 representative Elizabeth Beck. “The City has been encouraging the construction company to repair the road as quickly as possible and our emergency grant program for the merchants was a big help. This has been a complicated project, but we are happy the end is near, and we can get traffic flow moving again.”

“On Thursday we celebrate resilience and community,” said Lisa Jackson, owner of La’Creamian. “It has been a collective vision among the City of Fort Worth, the impacted businesses, and the beautiful community of supporters that surrounded us, believing that together we would get through this. We still have a long way to go and will not feel complete until our neighbors at the Sandman can join us with their doors open. But today, we cannot help but be grateful and thankful. Join us as we celebrate the street opening again!”

Join us on 8th Street between Houston and Throckmorton starting at noon:
• Free ice cream from La’Creamian for the first 100 customers, courtesy of the Sandman Fort Worth Signature Hotel.
