Brandt Fitness And Self Defense Has Opened Downtown Location

March 19,2014

Brandt Fitness & Self Defense

Brandt Fitness and Self Defense, a CrossFit gym and martial arts studio, recently relocated to Downtown Fort Worth. The gym, which operated on Hemphill and Magnolia in the Near Southside from 2010 to 2013, re-opened at 300 Burnett, just a couple of blocks from its original Downtown location six years ago.

“We loved the downtown area when we first opened back in 2008 and while the Near Southside was also a great spot, we felt it was time to return to our original location,” said owner Kyle Brandt. “We love being within walking distance for our downtown clients. Many of our athletes work out on their lunch break or before work in the morning and being here is much more convenient for them.”

The new location is equipped with showers and locker rooms, and a separate space with padded floors for kids and adults martial arts classes. The CrossFit space is also bigger than at the previous location and includes a lounge area for relaxing after class in the 4,000 square-foot leased in the basement level of the building.

Brandt has been studying martial arts and physical fitness for most of his life. He began teaching martial arts at the Arlington School of Self Defense under Master Instructor Tommy Stallard when he was 15 years old. He discovered then that his passion is to help people with their fitness goals. He earned a kinesiology degree from Texas Christian University in 2005 and in 2008 opened Fort Worth’s second ever CrossFit affiliate.

CrossFit is a group class that focuses on functional fitness, strength and conditioning for all ages and fitness ranges. There are seven class times every day. Athletes can also choose to purchase one-on-one personal training sessions with one of six instructors. The studio offers two kids martial arts classes each week, as well as two evening adult and family martial arts classes. The program is Tae Kwon Do based with elements of practical self defense.
