America's Memory Makes News in Burnett Park
March 1,2013
Yesterday, Downtown Resident and Navy Veteran Ron White, a two time U.S. National Memory Champion, began writing, from memory, the names of the 2,176 fallen men and women on a 50 ft. memorial wall constructed in Burnett Park. The wall was intentionally designed to look very similar to the Vietnam Memorial Wall. For over 10 months Ron memorized the rank, first name and last name of every member of the US Military who paid the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Enduring Freedom in the Afghanistan War. The event, which has been named America’s Memory began yesterday morning at 7:30 am and took more than 8 hours to complete. Ron paid for all costs of the event, including more than $12,000 for the memorial wall, out of pocket and continued to emphasize that this was not a commercial/profitable endeavor. Instead, the event is his way of honoring his fallen brothers and sisters of the military who did not return home. Ron has received national news coverage and a great deal of exposure from our local media as well. You will find that America's Memory is the feature story on the front page of today's Star-Telegram.
