This four lane vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle tunnel connects Downtown to the Near Southside under I-30.

At the intersection of Lancaster and Lamar, the newly opened underpass strengthens the connectivity and walkability between districts. The project includes green walls, wide sidewalks, enhanced lighting, bike lanes, and a public art piece entitled “Flight” by nationally renowned artist Dan Corson.

Total cost of the project is $53 million dollars with the city contributing $26.6 million. The remaining funding will come from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Texas Department of Transportation and Tarrant County.

The city converted Lamar Street to two-way traffic between Fifth and Texas streets to enhance connectivity from the Near Southside to Downtown.
