Artspace 111 is proud to present J.C. Pace III’s latest solo exhibition Time for Color | J.C. Pace III. This expansive exhibition combines elements of sculpture, metal work, and photography. Objects ranging from sealed lucite boxes filled with vibrant pigment, a trailer series invoked by the memory of growing up cattle ranching, and masterfully-machined aluminum boxes imbued with the feeling of deja vu, that seem as if they belong to something industrial, but are stand-alone pieces in themselves. Conceptually, Pace is straightforward in thinking about his utilitarian artworks that lend themselves to ideas around industry, survival, tough beauty and the joy of making objects of ubiquity.

Deviating from Pace’s beloved bronze pieces, the artist looks to explore aspects of color and calculated materiality in his latest body of work. Each piece contains significant meaning: colors inspired by place, influences of art and artists’ like Alexander Calder and abstract portraits of people defined by pigment and lucite. Pace invokes a conversation between the different forms of art making, marking a turn towards minimalism using familiar everyday objects to traverse the mysterious and unknown as mediation on simplification of the reduction of form. Pace explores machined lines as a form for gesture and response to his need to see an exact right angle.
