Filmed in technicolor the cinematography from Robert Burks is beautiful, as the use of shadows creates a noir tone as the mystery develops throughout the film.
When we watch 'Rear Window,' it is really us watching someone watch someone else. As voyeurs of the voyeur we are drawn into the plot alongside Jimmy Stewart in his wheelchair heightening our sense of becoming helplessly complicit with Stewart’s motivation as the plot unfolds. We become as vulnerable as the actors on the screen.
