Army Band Marching in Parade
The 395th Army Band of the Southwest from Mustang, Okla. will march across North Texas on Monday, November 11 to lead the Tarrant County Veterans Day Parade in Fort Worth.
The Soldier musicians will be “Saluting Cowtown” – theme of this year’s celebration. They’ll step off at 11 a.m. that Monday from the city’s Panther Island Pavilion parking lot, march down North Forest Park Blvd. along the Clear Fork of the Trinity River, and return.
The 395th was constituted on Aug. 2, 1943, in the U.S. Army Reserves and in December of that year, designated as the 95th Infantry Division Band. In October 2008, the band was reorganized and redesignated as the 395th Army Band, currently located at the Mustang Armed Forces Reserve Center in Oklahoma.
Although months away, The Tarrant County Veterans Council (TCVC) is busy planning for this special event. A parade website has launched (https://www.FW175parade.com) and the parade committee is soliciting support from individuals and organizations across North Texas for this year’s festivity.
This year marks 175 years since the first military post was established in North Central Texas. On Nov. 14, 1849, the U.S. War Dept. officially granted the name Fort Worth to the post near the confluence of the Clear and West forks of the Trinity.
“Everyone’s welcome to join in listening to the band and saluting the city, as well as all military veterans who have, are and will continue to make great contributions,” notes Council President Dan Zmroczek. “Simply visit our website (https:www.FW175parade.com) where you can learn how to support, volunteer, and take part in this year’s event.
“Will you consider joining this year’s festivities?” Zmroczek asks. “If you’re not available, please help us spread the word. A parade poster’s available online to download and distribute as well. Hope y’all can join our Cowtown salute on Veterans Day 2024.”
Fort Worth’s annual Veterans Day celebration began more than 100 years ago as an armistice procession through downtown in 1919 to honor those who had fought in World War I.
